This exhibition is a celebration showing our support of Marin Open Studios, a vibrant, community wide event that celebrates the county’s rich culture of art.

Marin Open Studios is an annual free art event that has taken place during the first two weekends in May for 23 years. Over 270 world-class artists and their works are featured for viewing and for sale at the event. The installation will be on exhibit in the Madrigal Salon from April 19 – May 17.

Arlene Whiting

I am a representational artist. By that I mean I use color and drawing to represent natural elements. However, I am always conscious of the abstract design of the work. I look for subjects with movement. I love to paint Animals (often horses) and Dancers Native American events inspire me with their movement, excitement and color. I always loved to draw and was inspired by my teacher Joe Mugnainni at Otis Art Institute. I earned my BFA from California College of Art (Oakland) in 1976. Those artist-teachers that I have found most inspiring are Jean Henry, Don Hatfield, Carolyn Anderson and Mark Daily. The books by Dan McCaw and Richard Schmid have been invaluable. alewetzow@earthlink.net

Cathy Locke

Cathy Locke holds a MFA from the Academy of Art University, where she teaches for the graduate department. A professional artist for over twenty years, she works in series that focus on the figure and objects in our environment. Cathy has received numerous accolades and her work is collected internationally. www.cathylocke.com

Carol Smith Myer

I apply luscious oil paints, with deep, saturated color to interpret on canvas the nuances of color and light that I have trained my eye to ‘see’ in the world that surrounds us. Color changes as it reflects the source of light, surroundings, and atmosphere, in landscape, still life, and figures. I find it challenging, fascinating and rewarding to engage this study every day, and I will never tire of it. In fact, even when not painting, I see colors bloom all around me with enhanced hues. I feel excitement and anticipation as I take my brush and/or palette knife and watch the painting as it comes to life. I teach weekly classes and occasional workshops.
