The 2016 Sauvignon Blanc is an exciting addition to the already impressive San Simeon portfolio

March 1, 2017 (Paso Robles, Calif.) – Staying true to their tradition of crafting  award-winning, artisan wines, the Riboli family is proud to announce the newest member of the San Simeon Wines family: 2016 Sauvignon Blanc.

Each wine under the San Simeon label is created to showcase the unique qualities of California’s Central Coast. This first vintage of Sauvignon Blanc is no exception. This wine is sourced from the family’s estate vineyards in Paso Robles, a region they have been farming since the 1980s. Paso Robles is primarily known for its big, robust red wines, but the region has also been proving itself to be a perfect home for whites, such as Sauvignon Blanc.

Paso Robles boasts warm days and cool nights, creating a longer hang time, which allows the Sauvignon Blanc grapes to ripen to their full potential, making them highly concentrated and flavorful. Stainless steel fermentation preserves the delicate, graceful flavors of the Sauvignon Blanc before ten percent of the wine is transferred to neutral French oak barrels to add complexity and depth. The resulting wine is bright and refreshing with intense flavors of citrus and pear. The nose reveals bright aromas of white peach and lime zest, accompanied by mineral notes which express the vineyard’s rocky terroir. This structured and well-balanced wine exhibits a lengthy, smooth finish.

“My family has always known the great potential of Paso Robles, which is why we have invested so much in the area,” says fourth generation winemaker Anthony Riboli.” After experimenting with different Sauvignon Blanc clones in our estate vineyards, we are proud to say that this wine is the perfect example of why planting Sauvignon Blanc in Paso Robles makes sense. We are excited to share this wine with our guests.”

The Riboli family believes a great wine is not complete without delicious food. This Sauvignon Blanc is a perfect accompaniment to many dishes. Anthony Riboli recommends Pesto Di Basilico, a traditional Italian dish of basil pesto over linguine. The bright acidity and liveliness of the Sauvignon Blanc pairs well with the aromatic garlic and basil characteristics of the dish.

The Riboli family is immensely proud of this first vintage and anticipates producing more crisp and complex Sauvignon Blanc from their estate vineyards in the future.
