NAPA, CA (February 2, 2017) – The Napa Valley Grapegrowers (NVG) and the Napa Valley Farmworker Foundation have announced a rain date for the 16th Annual Napa County Pruning Contest.  Originally set for this Saturday, February 4, 2017, the event will now take place on Wednesday, February 8, 2017.  This event recognizes the importance of farmworkers and in 2017, makes history by including family activities, community resources, educational opportunities for farmworkers, and a grand celebration of those who are at the frontline of quality in Napa valley’s vineyards.  The Napa Valley Pruning Contest is the only one of its kind to include a women’s division.

The Napa Valley Farmworker Foundation will be launching its Summer Mentor Program at the event.  In partnership with the Napa Valley Unified School District, this is an innovative 8-week program for Napa County High School students interested in learning more about career opportunities within viticulture and the wine industry.

To celebrate the 16th anniversary of this cherished industry event, an elaborate Mexican-style lunch is served and there will be festive music throughout the day.  Contest winners will take home cash prizes, vineyard tools, gift cards, clothing, and many other valuable prizes.  All participants will go home with commemorative wear and gifts from event sponsors.  The top pruners of each division receive a one-of-a-kind Pruning Contest Champion belt buckles (women’s and men’s), engraved especially for the occasion.

The contest begins at 11:00 a.m. (time changed to allow for changing road conditions and other safety concerns due to the rain) at Beringer Vineyard’s Gamble Ranch on State Lane in Yountville.  Those interested in participating may download entry forms at www.napagrowers.org or request an entry packet from the Napa Valley Grapegrowers at (707) 944-8311.  Entries must be received by February 6, 2017.
