January 30, 2016 – The perfect pairing, wine and chocolate will be on display at wineries throughout New Jersey when the Garden State Wine Growers Association (GSWGA) presents its annual Wine & Chocolate Wine Trail Weekend, February 11 and 12th at participating wineries throughout the Garden State.
The perfect way to treat your special someone for Valentine’s Day, the Wine & Chocolate Wine Trail Weekend is scheduled noon to 5 pm each day. The public is encouraged to visit multiple wineries along the many wine trails in the state that will be showcasing the award-winning New Jersey wines being produced by the more than 50 wineries now operating here. From Sussex County to the tip of Cape May, as part of this special Wine & Chocolate Wine Trail Weekend, wineries along the way will offer wine tastings, new releases, pairings, tours, live music and other entertainment, special food preparations and dinners. Activities range from picking your favorite wine and getting a picture of you and your sweetheart printed on a bottle of wine at Old York Cellars in Ringoes; sampling chocolates made by local chocolatiers at wineries like 4 JG’s Winery in Colts Neck, Auburn Road Vineyards in Pilesgrove and Brook Hollow Winery in Columbia and special winery dinners.
The public should contact wineries in advance to make reservations for special tastings and dinner events as these events sell out fast. The public is also encouraged to visit the GSWGA’s website and check out the statewide trail map to plan out their trek to various wineries in the state.
Here are some of the other highlights happening at wineries on the Wine & Chocolate Wine Trail Weekend.
Beneduce Vineyards in Pittstown will offer two deluxe wine tastings of their handcrafted wines, including a special tasting of the limited production ‘Tuxedo’ White Pinot Noir, paired with artisan cheeses and Shotgun Red wine-filled truffles custom made by The Fudge Shoppe in Flemington Reservations are required by calling (908) 996-DUCE.
At Bellview Winery in Landisville, guests can enjoy a glass of wine and an assortment of chocolates while the sweet sound of acoustic guitar fills the air. While love is in the air, it can also be in your glass with our release of their Love Potion on tap!
Cava Winery in Hamburg will offer a special Valentine’s Dinner and Four Sisters Winery in Belvidere will host a Murder Mystery Dinner while Tomasello Winery in Hammonton offers up a Wine Lovers Valentine’s Dinner at Tomasello Winery in Hammonton. Villa Milagro Vineyards in Finesville will celebrate “El Dia de Amor” with the decadent taste of chocolate, the romantic twinkle of lights and delicious Villa Milagro wines on the GSWGA Chocolate Wine Trail. Sample “Beseme” our “kiss me” wine for sweethearts! $10 admission includes wine tastings, chocolate treats, and a gift monogrammed glass. The winery is also hosting a St. Valentine’s Dinner Dance, Saturday, February 11, at 6.30 pm. Limited seating is available.
Down on the Cape May trail, Hawk Haven Vineyard & Winery in Rio Grande will provide a special wine and chocolate tasting that includes 8 wines and 4 gourmet chocolate pairings and a souvenir glass. Natali Vineyards in Cape May Courthouse will provide a tasting paired with a delicious assortment of gourmet chocolates. All ladies receive a complimentary red rose.
At Heritage Vineyards in Mullica Hill, guests will be able to sample from four different wine tasting stations, with each station offering four wines. This special event will feature mostly dry estate-grown wines. Handmade chocolate truffles will be provided by Sweet Salvation Truffles located in Berwyn Pennsylvania. Dibella Winery in Woolwich Township will be offering tastings, light snacks and chocolate pairings; Cedarville Winery in Logan Township will be pairing wine with chocolate samples; and Chestnut Run Farm in Piles grove will be open as it always is only on trail weekends for tours and tastings.
Hopewell Valley Vineyards in Pennington will offer live entertainment, tastings and a number of jewelry vendors and on Sunday will feature ‘Seasons of Love: An evening of cabaret’ from 5:30-7 pm. Drink wine and enjoy delicious pizza while Elizabeth Sutton, soprano and James Sparks, piano entertain you.
Terhune Orchards in Princeton will offer guests the chance to sample hot mulled wine and enjoy homemade chocolate baked goods from Terhune’s own bakery paired with their award-winning wines. For this weekend, they are offering a special wine and chocolate pairing with Carol’s Creative Chocolatez, a local artisan chocolate maker specializing in high quality single-origin chocolate. Iron Plow Vineyards in will have their wines paired with local artisan chocolates from chocolatier, The Farmer’s Daughter as well as live music all weekend long; Laurita Winery in New Egypt will feature generous samples of succulent chocolate inspired sweets which you can pair with their estate wines. Sample and for sale items will be offered by Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, House of Cupcakes, and Maddalena’s Cheesecakes. Live music provided both days. Monroeville Vineyard & Winery in Monroeville will have wine Sampling, souvenir wine glass, chocolate and live music.
Working Dog Winery in East Windsor will offer award-winning wines, great music, tempting treats and the Tower Dogs food truck Saturday and Sunday with their gourmet hot dogs and other delicious food, including a selection of chocolate desserts.
At Plagido’s Winery in Hammonton, a $10 admission includes wine tasting, souvenir wine glass and chocolate fountain. Snacks are available to purchase. Valenzano Winery in Shamong will have a band playing, food and a variety of vendors for that perfect something for him or her.
Sharrott Winery in Hammonton will offer a wine tasting featuring their Chocolate Fountain. Plus enjoy chocolates expertly paired with the Tasting. Sharrott Winery will also be offering a special Romantic Barrel Room Wine Tasting & Food Pairing – February 11 & 12 at 1:00, 2:30 & 4:00 pm partnering with Kitchen 19 in Hammonton to deliver a unique wine experience. Enjoy 5 courses, served small-plate style, expertly paired with Sharrott wines. There are three seating’s and space is limited. Call 609-567-9463 for reservations.
Southwind Vineyard & Winery in Millville will offer chocolate pairings with wine and special offers; Summit City Winery in Glassboro in addition to their normal tasting room schedule will host Country Music & Wine night with Country DJ Steve Carroll! Light snacks provided. $10 per person; Outside food is allowed, however no outside alcohol is permitted. Unionville Vineyards in Ringoes is hosting wine tasting and an exhibition of art inspired by the theme of love and spring, presented by two international artists. Wagonhouse Winery in Swedesboro will have a special tasting menu.
Also in Hammonton, DiMatteo Winery will offer special tastings and White Horse Winery will provide special wine and chocolate pairings every half hour starting at 12:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday. The winery will also be open on Friday for pairings 2-9 pm. Live music on the weekend as well.
Visitors can also ask for the New Jersey Wine Passport at their stops or access the mobile app. They can bring the passport to participating wineries to be stamped. Those having all of the pages stamped, and thus having visited all the wineries in the state, will be eligible for a drawing for a trip for two to a major wine destination in the United States.
