Prestigious Competition To Award Medals to the Finest Vintages

Pomona, CA (Jan. 25, 2017) – Celebrate your victory in June. But first, submit your entries in the 2017 Los Angeles International Wine Competition, a bona fide who’s who of global vintage excellence.

The prestigious competition, celebrating its 78th year takes place May 17 and 18 at Fairplex, home of the LA County Fair.

Big on longevity and stature, an impressive international panel of esteemed judges — from Master Sommeliers to chefs to wine writers — use a point system to award medals to the best wines in the world, maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism upon which the competition is founded.

Last year, the wine competition saw 3,010 international wines tasted, receiving entries from 23 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, England, France, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Portugal, Romania, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Ukraine, Uruguay and the United States of America.

Additional benefits to taking home a medal include the impressive wine education seminars and public tastings during the LA County Fair, Sept. 1 – 24, which welcomes 1.3 million guests annually; exposure on the website and social media platforms; and the opportunity to participate at CHEERS – L.A.’s Wine, Spirits, Beer & Food Festival June 24. The daily classes during the Fair are presented by industry experts with extensive knowledge in wine production and selection as well as wine and food pairing. A Fair favorite, the popular classes fill quickly and provide a perfect blend of entertainment, variety and education.

Entries submitted online before March 31 are $90 per entry and $95 after March 31. The official deadline to submit entries is April 15. Entries may be submitted online at lawinecomp.com. For information or to receive a packet, please call Mary Ellen Cole (909) 865-4231 or cole@fairplex.com.
