Napa GrapegrowersNAPA, CA (July 12, 2016) – On July 21, 2016 the Napa Valley Grapegrowers (NVG) will host the highly anticipated Organic Winegrowing Conference at the Grgich Hills Estate Victorian in Yountville. Never before has there been such in-depth a look at organic grapegrowing where attendees have the opportunity to: tour three distinctive vineyards; speak first-hand with top leaders and visionaries in the industry; and learn practical hands-on information focused on how to farm organically, and sustainably.

The NVG is proud to announce that this year’s keynote address will be delivered by Renata Brillinger, Executive Director of the California Climate and Agriculture Network, a coalition of sustainable and organic agriculture organizations that seeks to change state and federal policy to advance agriculture’s powerful climate solutions. After Ms. Brillinger’s presentation, attendees will be divided into smaller groups and given the unique opportunity to tour three select vineyard sites discussing a wide range of organic and sustainable farming practices.  Vineyard sites include:

  • Matthiasson Vineyard (led by Steve Matthiasson and Robin Gerber)
  • Grgich Hills Yountville Vineyard (led by Ivo Jeramaz)
  • Rudd Oakville Estate (led by Macy Stubstad and Frederick Ammons)

Lunch is provided and each individual site tour will explore a variety of applicable topics including:

  • Promoting biodiversity in the vineyard
  • Economics of farming organically
  • Weed management in an organic environment
  • Gaining organic certification
  • A sommelier perspective on marketing organically farmed wines
  • Managing viruses through organic practices
  • And more

The only event of its kind in the country, the Organic Winegrowing Conference offers valuable networking opportunities and unique insight that can lead to improved wine quality and sustainable vineyard practices.  It also brings together some of most respected voices in viticulture research and industry names synonymous with pioneering organic winegrowing to provide comprehensive information and support on the details of organic farming.

While the content is geared towards the organic grower, the topics and speakers have broad applicability for all vineyard owners and managers.

This year’s conference is one you will not want to miss and will conclude with a special wine reception ending the day.  A full schedule and registration form can be downloaded here and based on the popularity of this event, early registration is highly recommended as it does sell out annually.

Admission is $200 for NVG members and $300 for General Admission.
