Celebrates the Increasing Popularity of Greece’s Wine and Culinary Culture

Wines of GreeceNew York, NY May XX, 2016 – Wines of Greece announces the second annual Taste of Greece event to be held on Wednesday, May 18, at City Winery in New York City.  This event will highlight Greece’s wine, gastronomy and culture, showcasing the nation’s top wines and culinary delicacies to media, trade, and consumers, celebrating the rising growth of Greek wine and food consumption in the U.S.

During the afternoon, members of the wine trade and press will be invited to the walk-around tasting with nearly 50 Greek wineries. In the evening, the event is open to the public for a ticketed event and will feature, along with the wine stations, some of NYC’s finest Greek restaurants including Amali, Avra, Greek Tribeca, Kefi, Molyvos, MP Taverna, Periyali and Thalassa. Ticket holders to the event will have the opportunity to attend this spectacular Greek affair and taste through the extensive offering of wine and small bites.

“There is a new era of high quality Greek wine, produced by family owned wineries with limited production that express the distinct flavors of our native grapes and the nuances of the unique terroir where they are grown,” explains Sofia Perpera, Director of  the Greek Wine Bureau for North America. “We are delighted to show these wines to New York’s savvy wine consumers paired with delicious Mediterranean cuisine.”

To complete the authentic Greek cultural experience, a group of excellent young musicians from Athens – Irini Haridou, Nikos Plios and their band – will play the songs of legendary Greek composers Hatzidakis, Theodorakis and Tsitsanis.  All proceeds of the event will benefit Boroume, a non-profit organization committed to reducing food waste and the distribution of surplus food to the needy throughout Greece.
