Uco Valley Emerges as a Preferred Cool Climate for Singular White Wines

Rutini Trumpeter TorrontésNEW YORK, NY (May 04, 2016) ‒ Argentina’s Uco Valley is a premier destination for the country’s finest Malbec, and increasingly is also building a name for white wines. Torrontés, an aromatic white wine with pronounced acidity, is the region’s most popular white variety. Rutini Wines, one of the country’s most established wineries, has been working with the variety for years and has just released Trumpeter Torrontés 2015.

“At its best, Torrontés produces wines that have refreshing levels of acidity with intriguing aromatics,” says Maria Laura Ortiz, Vice-President of the Argentine Sommelier Association. “It’s a well-balanced and elegant white wine, enjoyable on its own, but also quite versatile when it comes to food pairings. Trumpeter Torrontés is a perennial favorite in Argentina, and works beautifully with a range of flavors from sweetness to heat and spices.”

There are an estimated 20,000 acres of Torrontés vines planted in Argentina. Rutini winemaker Mariano Di Paola sources Torrontés from the high altitude Uco Valley. According to Di Paola: “I prefer Torrontes from our cooler area in Uco Valley than the traditional plantings in Salta, where the grapes can sometimes get too high in alcohol and show some bitterness.” Rutini’s Torrontés vineyards, exclusively in Uco Valley, benefiting from moderating temperature differences between night and day.
