NAPA, April 18, 2016-/ Jean-Charles Vicard, owner of Vicard Generation 7 was honored to win 2 awards for his Tannin Selection Barrels and the revolutionary ECO 27 barrel at Wine Business Monthly’s Innovation + Quality seminar in March.   In addition to the 2 awards, Dr. Marie-Laure Badet-Murat, research consultant for GROUPE VICARD, was invited to speak at WB IQ and presented the latest results of her research which included a trial conducted in a Grand Cru Classé of Bordeaux in partnership with the ONF to study the impact of both geographic origin and oak ellagitannin content on wine quality. Her session, “Achieving Barrel Consistency”, was attended by over 200 top winemakers and culminated in a tasting of both Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon with different tannin levels and toasting profiles.

ABOUT VICARD Generation 7 Tannin Selection Barrels

The patented process of individual scanning, analysis and sorting of each stave for tannin content-not grain, and toasting in a climate and computer controlled cabinet ensures barrels are homogenous and reproducible. Research confirms this unique system provides winemakers with predictable profiles not only in ellagitannin content but also in whiskey lactones, Furanic aldehydes and Vanilla.  These barrels have no variation barrel to barrel or vintage to vintage.

ABOUT THE ECO 27 Barrel

The ECO 27 barrel, made from the upper branches of 200-year-old French oaks, is a cost-effective option for winemakers who would like the oenological and marketing benefits of French oak barrels in their programs but at a dramatically lower price point. The ECO 27 technology uses multiple patented processes, including laser detection of porosity areas in the medullary ray. Launched worldwide in 2014, the ECO 27 has quickly become a valuable addition to both large wine groups and individual wineries worldwide.
