New multi-year grants allow nonprofits to serve more Napa County residents

Napa Valley Vintners3/14/2016 – St. Helena, CA – The Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) wine trade association announced today it has granted nearly $6 million from Auction Napa Valley proceeds to 17 nonprofits that provide community health services. These organizations specialize in the areas of physical and mental health, family support services and senior support services. To date, the NVV through its auction proceeds has given more than $150 million to Napa County nonprofits.

According to the NVV’s most recent Grants Report, Auction Napa Valley giving helps more than 100,000 clients of Napa County nonprofits every year. This allows every child in Napa County to have access to affordable health care and one in six local residents to receive their primary health care through OLE Health. Napa County residents are assisted from birth through life’s later stages via programs offered by agencies like the birthing center at St. Helena Hospital and Collabria Care and Collabria Hospice (formerly Napa Valley Hospice & Adult Day Services). Funding for crucial mental health and family support services provides a firm foundation for creating a strong and vital local community

As part of its continuous assessment of best practices in grant funding, this year the NVV is providing secure, multi-year, unrestricted funding to nearly a third of the recipient nonprofit organizations in the community health sector. Leading philanthropic research, such as that from the Stanford Social Innovation Review, indicates that multi-year funding for stable nonprofits allows organizations to more effectively plan for the needs of their clients. Agencies can also leverage the secured grants to attract additional funding.

“Helping people make long-lasting life changes takes time,” said Joelle Gallagher, executive director of Cope Family Center. “One such program made possible by the NVV’s progressive, new funding model is Triple P, a world-renowned positive parenting program that offers families a scientifically proven solution to strengthen family relationships and address everyday parenting challenges.”

Marie, mother to Brian aged 5 and Sophie, aged 2, has recently participated in the Triple P program at Cope Family Center in Napa. “I loved my Triple P class,” said Maria. “It was helpful to hear other parents discuss difficult issues and listen to feedback from the instructor on ways to deal with our kids’ behaviors

Today’s announcement of giving to 18 community health organizations totals $5,903,000.
