Legendary Napa Valley Grape Growing Family to Own First Winery
St. Helena, Calif.—Tuck and Boo Beckstoffer have agreed to acquire Dancing Hares Winery and Vineyard in the eastern hills of St. Helena from founders Paula Brooks and Bob Cook.
The purchase includes the Dancing Hares 20-acre winery estate, vineyards, winery, brands and inventory. Brooks and Cook established the estate and planted it to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, in 2003. They completed a state-of the art winery and caves designed by architect Howard Backen in 2009.
The Beckstoffers have appointed Philippe Melka as winemaker and will continue working with consultants Michel Rolland and Frederick Delivert.
Dancing Hares currently produces two limited production wines, Dancing Hares Estate red wine ($150) and Mad Hatter Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ($68), sold predominantly via mailing list. The 2013 Dancing Hares estate red wine received 98 points from critic Robert Parker.
