Baileyana S-Bar Pinot Noit takes Red Wine of the Show Trophy

Niven Family Wine EstatesThe Niven family, pioneers of the Edna Valley AVA, known for building their business by successfully creating innovative and timely projects, has received high honors from the internationally acclaimed Six Nations Wine Challenge. Their 2013 Baileyana S-BAR Pinot Noir was awarded the coveted RED WINE OF SHOW TROPHY, and their 2013 Tangent Albariño received a DOUBLE GOLD MEDAL.

One trophy is awarded to the winner in each of 17 varietal classes – the US took home three trophies this year, one of them for the 2013 Baileyana S-BAR Pinot Noir. This wine then went on to win the RED WINE OF SHOW TROPHY by beating out every trophy and medal winner in all eight red categories; a total of 95 award winning wines, spanning all six countries.

The only wine show in the world where entry is granted exclusively by invitation from a participating judge, the Six Nations Wine Challenge is held in Australia each year. Nations included are Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa, and the US. Each is represented by a single judge who is tasked with choosing 100 of the best wines from their home country, regardless of wine company size and wine availability. US judge Dan Berger has included NFWE wines on his list since the competition’s inception three years ago.

The current Chairman, Mr. Eduardo Brethauer of Chile, commented “The Six Nations Wine Challenge is an open window that shows the excitement of a viticulture that is always moving forward, discovering new spots, innovating with varieties, experimenting with styles, reflecting the tradition and bright future of the New World scene”.

About Niven Family Wine Estates

NFWE is a true family wine company – Jack Niven pioneered winegrape planting in the Edna Valley in the early 70s, and the second and third generations of his family currently manage the business together. They believe in sustainability, quality, community, innovation, tradition when warranted, and keeping consumers interested in the ever-changing world of wine. Recognizing the diversity of their SIP Certified Sustainable estate in the cool-climate Edna Valley, they make an extreme range of wines in a wide array of carefully focused styles. No other wine company, whether corporately held or family owned, grows grapes and makes wines of such diversity from a single cool-climate estate. Rather than group all of these efforts under one wine brand, the Nivens have strategically positioned them as six separate projects:  Baileyana, True Myth, Tangent, Zocker, Trenza, and Cadre. www.nivenfamilywines.com
