WSET Level 1 Award in Wine, Cicerone Certification Program And Barolo Master Prep Seminar Available At SommCon® On Wednesday, November 18 In San Diego

SommConSan Diego, CA (October 22, 2015) – SommCon®, an educational summit for wine industry professionals and serious enthusiasts, held in San Diego, CA, announces certification opportunities and preparation courses for those looking to bolster their resume and further their industry education and knowledge.

On Wednesday, November 18, SommCon®, holds certification courses, including the WSET (Wine & Spirits Education Trust) Level 1 Award in Wine offered by the Neptune School of Wine, as well as Certified Cicerone®, the second level of certification through the Cicerone Certification Program, and the Barolo Master Prep Seminar, a two-hour seminar that educates on all 20 regions of Italy in the Italian Wine Specialist® certification.

SommCon® brings together top industry professionals to discuss, develop and lead the discussion on the business of wine. Held at the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego from November 18-21, 2015, wine industry professionals and serious enthusiasts of all levels receive convenient and affordable access to education and networking opportunities through 50 sessions that bring together some of the greatest thought leaders, entrepreneurs and artisans.

Committed to enhancing the “business of wine,” the educational content featured at SommCon is designed by a team of over 25 of the wine industry’s top professionals who have joined together to form “Team SommCon.”  Lindsay Pomeroy, Master of Wine Candidate, CWE, WSET, FWS, Owner and Chief Wine Educator of The Wine Smarties – San Diego’s first wine education company, and a member of Team SommCon – leads the WSET certification course featured during SommCon®.

The WSET Level 1 Award in Wine, offered by Neptune School of Wine will be held at the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The WSET Level 1 Certificate is intended as vocational training in product knowledge for those employed in the beverage industry who have little previous knowledge of wines and spirits. It is designed to provide a basic knowledge and skill in the service and retail of wine. The certification is presented by Lindsay Pomeroy, and is priced at $308 per person.

The Certified Cicerone® is the second level of certification through the Cicerone Certificate Program. Those who achieve this certification have a deep and well-rounded knowledge of beer and beer service, as well as competence in assessing beer quality and identity by taste. The exam will be held at the Manchester Hyatt San Diego from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and is priced at $395 per person.

BAROLO DOCG is among the most famous and commercially significant wines that the Italian region of Piemonte produces. Fully understanding and grasping this appellation can be a lifelong journey. This two-hour seminar held at the Manchester Hyatt San Diego from 11:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., covers the significant elements that create these beautiful wines, including, Barolo’s typicality, classifications, history, soils, styles and organoleptic palate and characteristics as well as traditional food pairings. Participants leave with a clear understanding of how to sell and serve these wines. The preparation course is led by Diego Meraviglia, VP and Director of Education, North American Sommelier Association, and is priced at $100 per person.
