Taken Wine Co. Launches New Red Wine and Pinot Grigio from Puglia, Italy

Available 2013 Red BlendSt. Helena, Calif. October 14, 2015 – On the heels of its unprecedented success with Millennial favorites Taken and Complicated, Taken Wine Co. today announced the nationwide launch of its third label, Available. A relevant addition to a growing portfolio of fruit-forward, Millennial-centric wines, Available includes a 2013 Red Blend and a 2014 Pinot Grigio, both from Puglia, Italy.

Taken Wine Co. founders Carlo Trinchero and Josh Phelps—next generation winemakers who grew up together in the heart of Napa Valley—are taking a global view with Available, crafting terroir-driven wines from some of the world’s best growing regions. The inaugural offerings are a nod to their Italian roots, with grapes sourced from southern Italy’s buzz-worthy Puglia region, where dry, sunny days are tempered by cooling breezes off the Mediterranean Sea.

With a base of 50% Sangiovese, the 2013 Available Red Blend gets its structure from Cabernet Sauvignon (25%) and its smooth palate from Merlot (25%). The result is a lush, fruit-forward blend with the nose and flavor of a classic Italian table wine. The 2014 Available Pinot Grigio is made entirely with Pinot Grigio fruit from Puglia, which produces a richer style of this grape variety. Both wines retail for $13 and will be sold in stores nationwide.

“The idea behind these wines is to make the world’s top wine regions more ‘available’ to American wine drinkers, particularly our Millennial fan base” said Carlo. “We settled on the Puglia region for our initial offering, as it offers quality wine at an affordable price, and is becoming increasingly known as a more sophisticated wine region to consumers and trade. We’ve got our eye on several areas around the globe for our future releases.”

Carlo and Josh developed Taken Wine Co. around their peers who enjoy great wine and turn to social media to discover new brands.  Available is a natural fit for the company’s interconnected vibe and approachable wine style.

“Our generation doesn’t hesitate to share personal information on social media sites, so the Available brand name spun from the popularity of relationship status updates,” explained Josh. “The wines speak for themselves with a classic, easy-drinking style that American wine drinkers will love.”
