Sonoma, California | August 10, 2015: The Napa | Sonoma chapter of Women for WineSense (WWS) will host, “Bordeaux Master Class – Focus on Médoc,” on Thursday, September 3rd, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Buena Vista Historical Winery, in Sonoma, with international wine educator, Wendy Narby, providing an in-depth lecture and tasting on the Médoc region at Buena Vista’s new French viticulture Wine Tool Museum. Serving as the chapter’s inaugural event to their new Lecture Series, the series will provide members and guests with topic-specific presentations throughout the year to aid its wine industry and wine enthusiast members in furthering their wine education and career development goals.

Chapter President, Christine L. Mueller, explained, “For years we’ve heard presenters speak at our events and thought, ‘If only we could hear about that one topic for another hour or two!’” She continued, “At last we’re able to bring this dream to fruition with this new series of events, allowing our members and guests to showcase their expertise in a highly specific area of the wine world.” Additional lectures in the series are planned throughout the fall and into 2016.

ABOUT THE EVENT: Sponsored by the Conseil des Vins du Medoc and Buena Vista, attendees will be welcomed at the winery with a glass of Buena Vista sparkling wine, a part of the Boisset Family Estates Collection, and enjoy a custom tour culminating in a presentation of the ultra-rare collection of historic French viticulture tools showcased in the new Wine Tool Museum at Buena Vista Historical Winery, where the lecture and tasting will be held. A special permit from the French government was needed to bring the tools to America. From picks and plow blades to handcrafted barrel spigots, the items represent state-of-the art viticulture during the 19th and 20th centuries, in both Europe and California.

ABOUT THE MEDOC: The Médoc has had a long history of making very full-bodied red wines with high tannins, low acidity, and medium to high alcohol levels, i.e., the classic Bordeaux blend. While red Bordeaux can be thought of as wine from St-Émilion, Pomerol, or Graves, the Médoc is still considered the quintessential Bordeaux. Possibly the most famous region of Bordeaux, Médoc is known for its iconic, cabernet driven, classified growths. Among its most famous appellations produced in this area are Saint Estèphe, Margaux, Saint Julien and Pauillac. Attendees may learn the history and geography of the region, and how this shapes the wines of the region–the complex mosaic that is Bordeaux.

ABOUT WENDY NARBY: Ms. Narby has spent the last 25 years in the French Food and Wine Industry. She now teaches professionals and the general public in Bordeaux, the U.K. and as far away as Asia and the U.S., as well as accompanying private wine tours for amateurs and enthusiasts alike. Her aim is to open the doors of the world’s most famous vineyards, explaining and making the wonderful world of French wine more accessible. Ms. Narby is a member of the Association of Wine Educators (AWE), lecturing on behalf of the Bordeaux Wine School (Ecole du Vin de Bordeaux). She is author of the recently published book, “Bordeaux Bootcamp,” now available for download, for which she is offering event attendees a substantial discount.

Tickets for this event start at $10 for WWS members and go up to $35 for non-members. The event is open to the public, but seating is highly limited. To purchase and for more details, go to https://wws-bordeaux-master-class-buena-vista.eventbrite.com.
