Each Featured Winery Makes Wine Both in the U.S. and Abroad

Wine SpectatorNEW YORK, NY (May 18, 2015)—Wine Spectator magazine, the premier media brand for the wine industry, and Vinexpo, which hosts the world’s preeminent wine and spirits exhibitions, have partnered to sponsor a special sipping showcase on Monday, June 15, at Vinexpo 2015, the five-day exhibition running June 14 to 18 in Bordeaux. Titled Global Connections, the tasting will feature fine wines from the United States and around the world.

Taking place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., the tasting will provide wine professionals the opportunity to explore the interaction of global wine companies and local terroirs, with wines from six U.S. states and eight other countries. The event is part of this year’s Vinexpo conference, themed Taste the Unexpected, which will be celebrating the U.S. as its first-ever Country of Honor.

“Vinexpo’s recognition of the United States as its first-ever Country of Honor is very exciting, and it inspired us to host this special tasting,” said Marvin R. Shanken, editor and publisher of Wine Spectator. “With the U.S. being No. 1 in wine consumption, we also felt now was the opportune time to host this event. We look forward to showcasing all these impressive, internationally driven wineries.”

“Global Connections perfectly reflects the importance of the U.S. as a producer, the strong link between producing regions around the world and, last but certainly not least, what Vinexpo is all about—exploring the horizons of planet wine and tasting the unexpected!” said Guillaume Deglise, CEO of Vinexpo.

A free, invitation-only tasting, Global Connections expects to draw 1,000 attendees. Its 29 participating companies have long traditions and deep experience in making fine wine. Some are based outside the U.S. and have invested in states such as California, Oregon, Washington and Virginia. Others are originally American-born but have expanded to France, Italy, Argentina or South Africa. The featured wines will showcase particular terroirs around the world, as well as the companies’ global visions.

The participating wine companies are:

The Global Connections tasting was organized as the result of a new strategic partnership between Vinexpo and Wine Spectator. As part of the agreement, Wine Spectator has also arranged for industry leaders to participate in a panel, titled Inside the U.S. Wine Market, which will take place at Vinexpo on Tuesday, June 16, from 10 a.m. to noon. In addition, Wine Spectator will partner in Vinexpo Asia-Pacific in Hong Kong and Vinexpo Nippon in Tokyo in 2016.

Vinexpo Bordeaux 2015 expects to draw nearly 50,000 professional visitors and 2,400 exhibitors from 44 wine-producing countries.
