Steve Gross to Lead State Compliance for Direct Shipping Seminar at Sonoma State

Sonoma State UniversityRohnert Park, CA (April 7, 2015) – Steve Gross, Vice President of State Relations for the Wine Institute will lead the “State Compliance for Direct Shipping” seminar at Sonoma State’s Wine Business Institute on April 22nd.  With wineries aiming to sell through direct to consumer channels, the seminar comes at critical time as wineries prepare to release their next vintages and anticipate increased sales and shipping as many work to fill wine club orders all over the country.

The four hour seminar will examine the complex array of state regulations as well as the tax and alcohol regulatory requirements for direct shipping of wine.  Seminar participants will receive the latest materials from the Wine Institute, including all required state forms for registration and reporting in all states and instructions for their completion.  The seminar will also host an overview and discussion around the ever-evolving regulations around shipping of wine in each state and the future of direct-shipping compliance legislation.

Steve Gross has been with the Wine Institute since 1986 where he oversees the Wine Institute’s legislative and regulatory activities with staff, contract lobbyists, and member wineries.  Gross regularly participates in many national programs dealing with issues facing the wine industry, both on the legislative and regulatory levels.

“State Compliance for Direct Shipping” is an elective seminar that can be taking individually or in combination with other core and elective seminars to earn the Wine Industry Finance & Accounting or Direct to Consumer certificates.  The seminar will be offered 8:30am – 12:30pm April 22nd.  Register by April 8th to receive the $30 early registration discount.  Contact Erin Ringstad, erin.ringstad@sonoma.edu or 707-664-3235 for more information.
