New Trade Event Highlights Contributions from the Region’s Most Preeminent Wineries Annual Paulée Dinner Celebrates Winemaker’s Favorite Vintages VIP Festivities Take Place April 30 – May 2

RRVWSanta Rosa, CA (March 24, 2015) – Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley – the premier pinot noir growing region – is preparing to support the first annual Sonoma County Barrel Auction hosted by the Sonoma County Vintners. Created exclusively for licensed wine sellers, including retailers, restaurateurs and wholesalers, the two-day event will kick off on Thursday, April 30th with an invitation only VIP trade and media event at Williams Selyem Winery with celebrated icons of the Sonoma County wine industry. The live auction will take place May 1 at Santa Rosa’s Vintners Inn and will offer original selections of never before, never again wine lots that showcase the quality and diversity of Sonoma County winemaking.  Eighteen of the Russian River Valley’s most notable and celebrated wines can be procured for bidders’ distinguished collections.  Among them:

A joint lot featuring Joseph Swan, Williams Selyem and Kosta Browne: With this barrel, wineries representing three epochs of Russian River Valley pinot noir history, Joseph Swan (The Father), Williams-Selyem (The Son) and Kosta-Browne (The Holy Ghost) have come together to make a never before, never again barrel of Swan Selection pinot noir from the finest lots of some of their premier vineyards.

Gary Farrell Winery: This 2014 pinot noir will prove to be an outstanding expression of the varietal from the historic Bacigalupi Forest Ranch Vineyard, planted in 1993 in the AVA’s northwestern Middle Reach neighborhood.

DeLoach Vineyards: This unique 2014 pinot noir is crafted solely from biodynamic vineyards within the Russian River Valley, with hand-harvested grapes gently basket-pressed and aged in 100% French oak barrels.

Martinelli Winery: Marking the first and only time the winery will blend grapes from its Moonshine Vineyard and Reserve Vineyard – two distinctly different vines, once planted miles apart and now growing in alternating rows in the same vineyard. Martinelli, whose wines are typically released exclusively as single vineyard designates, brings these two special flavors together for this occasion only, producing a blend that is the family’s personal favorite.

“The diverse array of lots provided by our winegrowers speaks to the vast complexity of pinot noir found throughout the Russian River Valley, and offers an unparalleled opportunity to become immersed in the regions exclusive offerings,” said Shannon Wesley, RRVW Association Manager.

Paulée Dinner:  A Showcase of Winemakers’ Personal Cellars

Included in the weekend’s festivities is the Russian River Valley Winegrowers’ Third Annual Paulée Dinner being held on May 2 at Kosta Browne’s newly minted winemaking facility and tasting room at the industrially chic Barlow in Sebastopol. In the spirit of the Paulée tradition – a celebration of pinot noir –  which originated in Burgundy, the Russian River Valley Paulée brings winemakers and collectors together to enjoy an elegant multi-course meal paired with rare and favorite wines from not only the winemakers’, but also guests’ personal cellars. The intimate feast welcomes auction guests, winemakers and growers to specialties from Russian River Valley chefs Daniel Kedan and Marianna Gardenhire of Backyard; Josh Silvers, chef and owner of Jackson’s Bar & Oven; and Chefs Christopher & Ciara Greenwald of Bay Laurel Culinary. The truly engaging dining experience includes farm style seating which fosters the spirit of community and an ideal format for the shared love of great wine.

“Each year, the Paulée Dinner brings together discerning wine lovers to celebrate and share personally selected wines and great food with some of the most distinguished and generous winemakers in the Russian River Valley, and also experience wines that are nearly impossible to find,” says Rod Berglund of Joseph Swan Vineyards, and President of the Russian River Valley Winegrowers.  “We look forward to continuing to build upon this great tradition from Burgundy, in our own backyard.”
