p & f Introduces Americans to High Quality, Affordable Wines from Slovenia

Puklavec & FriendsNew York, NY, February 25, 2015 — Building on tremendous global success and capitalizing on current trends in the American wine market, Puklavec & Friends (p & f) has launched in the U.S. market. Since the 1930s, the Puklavec family has been making wines in the region of Ljutomer-Ormož, near the Austrian border of Slovenia. Prized for its mineral and lime-rich soils, this region is known for producing the best white wines in Slovenia.

p & f wineries was founded in 2009 when Tatjana Puklavec and her father, Vladimir, reclaimed the winery that her grandfather ran in the 1900s, before and during the time that all winemaking was nationalized under Communist ruler Joseph Tito. Vladimir and his family quickly upgraded the winery’s facilities with the latest technology, while still hand-picking the grapes, and found a promising young winemaker in Mitja Herga to take a fresh, quality-driven approach to winemaking. Just six years since its founding, p & f wines are now sold in over 20 countries and frequently earn international accolades. In 2014, p & f was named “Winery of the Year” in its home country, earning the title over 172 other wineries.

The wines of p & f are now being distributed in New York and New Jersey through Opici Family Distributing (www.opiciwines.com) and in Connecticut through Worldwide Wines (www.worldwidewines.com).  The winery is actively looking to expand across the U.S. The current U.S. portfolio includes two “Premium” offerings, Sauvignon Blanc ($12.99), and Pinot Grigio ($12.99), as well as three wines from the “Popular Premium tier,” a Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio blend ($10.99), a Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blend ($10.99), and Moscato ($10.99). The wines are off to a strong start: Whole Foods is featuring three wines from the puvlavec & friends range (Muscato, Sauvignon Blanc, and Cabernet/Merlot) for the month of February in NY-metro area stores as part of its “Winery of the Month” program.

“We are thrilled to introduce Americans to our exceptionally fresh, fruit-driven Slovenian wines,” says Tatjana Puklavec, Director of p & f wineries. “We believe the time is right for Americans to discover our wines, which are made from varietals they know and which happen to also be the grapes that best express our outstanding terroir. We look forward to putting Slovenia back on the map of the world’s leading wine countries while expanding the p & f brand across the U. S.”
