Employee Team Partners with Solano-Napa Habitat For Humanity

Cork Supply CSU Habitat for Humanity Jan 2015Benicia, CA, January 21, 2015 – Cork Supply USA, Inc. (CSU) volunteers celebrated the spirit of the New Year with a great volunteer effort on behalf of Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity.

Eight team members from Cork Supply’s Benicia facility spent Thursday, January 8, 2015, lending a hand to Habitat for Humanity construction crews building homes for the Gaytan and Kenner families in Fairfield, California. Their work included setting roof trusses and applying sheathing, as well as preparation work for new fencing. Cork Supply CEO James Herwatt, who was a member of the employee volunteer team, praised their hard work and the ongoing efforts of the Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity, and said, “Cork Supply USA is extremely pleased with this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors.”

As Kathy Hoffman, Habitat Development Director for Solano-Napa explained, volunteers are vital to the work of the organization, furnishing millions of hours of support for construction projects in local, national, and global communities that provide new housing and renovation assistance for deserving families. “By giving us a hand today, the Cork Supply team was a part of a global Habitat volunteer workforce that completes a house somewhere in the world once every 3 minutes,” said Hoffman. “Since Habitat for Humanity was established in 1976, we have served 1,000,000 families around the world (that milestone was reached in November 2014), providing decent, affordable shelter to more than 5,000,000 people.”

In addition to the physical labor of the volunteers, Cork Supply donated $1,000 towards the construction fund for the two Fairfield homes. The CSU team agreed that the experience was an excellent opportunity to actively support their communities. In fact, Cork Supply has committed to participating in several more “build days” on behalf of Solano-Napa Habitat for Humanity construction projects.
