NYC-based Importer Adds Fourth Alto Adige Producer to Extensive Italian Fine Wine Portfolio

Vias ImportsNew York City, January 20, 2015 — Vias Imports, Ltd., the leading importer of Italian fine wine in the United States, has begun importing and distributing the wines of Pacherhof Winery, a producer of aromatic white wines in the town of Neustift, located in the northern Italian region of Valle Isarco, Alto Adige.

“We are happy to be working with Pacherhof, an excellent family-owned winery producing some of the finest quality aromatic white wines that Alto Adige has to offer,” says Fabrizio Pedrolli, founder and chairman of Vias Imports. “This winery combines a rich history of Italian winemaking and forward thinking, as Andres plans to transition to organic practices over the next several months. We look forward to sharing the Pacherhof story and its unique, expressive wines across our markets.”

The winery is a part of the Pacherhof Hotel, which has been an agriturismo staple in the area owned by the Huber family since the 12th century, and includes a popular restaurant that sells its own wines. Boasting a 30,000 annual bottle capacity, Pacherhof Winery covers eight hectares under vine of fertile growing soil in Neustift, located in the Eisack Valley.

Cellar master and family operator Andres Huber gathers and hand presses the grapes himself, producing a line of seven wines comprising six white grape varietals with characteristics unique to the vineyard’s terroir. The wines include Gewürztraminer Alto Adige Valle Isarco DOC ($34), Kerner Alto Adige Valle Isarco DOC ($28), Müller Thurgau Alto Adige Valle Isarco DOC ($24), Pinot Grigio Alto Adige Valle Isarco DOC ($29), Riesling Alto Adige Valle Isarco DOC ($37), and two Sylvaners: Sylvaner Alto Adige Valle Isarco DOC ($28) and Sylvaner Alte Reben Alto Adige Valle Isarco DOC ($45).

The wines are available nationwide, effective January 1. Pacherhof joins Gottardi, Weingut Larcherhof and Strasserhof as the fourth winery to represent Alto Adige in the Vias portfolio. If you have any questions or would like more information about Pacherhof Winery or Vias Imports, please visit www.viaswine.com or contact Margot Dempsey at mdempsey@colangelopr.com or 646-624-2885 ext. 155.

About Pacherhof Winery:

Pacherhof’s vineyards are located on the eight-hectare estate belonging to the Pacherhof Hotel, residing in Neustift of the Eisack valley, slightly north of Brixen in the Alto Adige region of Italy. The Huber family has owned the Pacherhof estate since 1142, and established the winemaking branch in the 1900s. Cellar master Andreas Huber cultivates the seven available white grape varieties, pressing them himself in his own cellar. Huber strives to retain the characteristics of the soil in his wines, letting the wines speak for themselves.  The Germanic varietals of Kerner, Grüner Veltliner, Müller Thurgau, Sylvaner, Riesling and Gewürtztraminer have a special home in the Eisack valley, which has ideal geographic conditions for these well-known grapes to thrive—steep hillside slopes of soil comprising gravel, sand and shingle, rich in minerals with unique micro climates. Crisp, chilly nights, warm to hot days and good ventilation contribute to the fruity, subtle aromas of the white wines, yielding a classic style of dry tartness coupled with attractive robustness.
