Week of activities in Asian market will culminate in ProWine China international trade fair

Napa Valley Vintners11/3/2014 – St. Helena, CA – Twenty members of the Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) nonprofit trade association are heading to Tokyo, Japan and Shanghai, China this week for eight days of marketing activities to promote the Napa Valley wine region.

While in Tokyo, the group will host education and wine tasting events for restaurant and retail wine buyers, wine importers and members of the press. Vintners are also donating wine and auction items to a charity dinner for consumers that will benefit Hands on Tokyo, an organization committed to making volunteer activities more accessible and accelerating the growth of volunteerism in the Tokyo area.

Activities in Shanghai include participation in the international trade fair, ProWine China. Now in its second year, ProWine is expected to attract nearly 10,000 wine trade professionals, primarily from Asian markets. NVV will have a booth at the fair featuring wines and educational materials about the region and will organize a seminar positioning Napa Valley wines among the best in the world. While in Shanghai, NVV is also hosting a luncheon at the Bund Yacht Club and a wine dinner for the Shanghai Wine Society.

“Napa Valley may be the most well-known wine region in America, but we still have work to do in Asia,” said Vivien Gay, international sales manager for Silver Oak and Twomey Cellars and chair of the NVV’s International Marketing Committee. “Participation in major wine fairs, like ProWine China, and organizing trade missions are important elements of our strategy to demonstrate Napa Valley is a leader in the global wine world.”

The trade mission kicks off November 6 in Tokyo and concludes in Shanghai on November 14.
