Wine Industry Veterans Continue to Grow Dunnigan Hills Winery

Crew Wine CompanyZamora, Calif., October 30, 2014 – Crew Wine Company, www.crewwines.com, located in the Dunnigan Hills AVA in the up-and-coming wine region of Yolo County, will officially open its doors to a brand-new tasting room on Friday, October 31, 2014. The regional-inspired tasting room open to the public daily from 11:00 am to 4:30 pm, is the only such room in the designated AVA, and will showcase the winery’s four creative labels:  Matchbook, Mossback, Chasing Venus, and Sawbuck, all sourced from estate fruit and beyond.

The winery’s 2,160-square-foot tasting room is designed to blend into the property’s existing farm buildings, with a softer, modern look that is also functional while using economical materials. Local Woodland architect Bill McCandless designed the tasting room with a polished concrete floor, metal and steel beams, and a sheet metal roof mimicking the other facilities on the property.

The welcoming wine bar, made of wood salvaged from an old barn from nearby Esparto, is finished with cold rolled steel from neighboring Woodland. The walls are accented with photos, by Woodland based photographer Ivan Sohrakoff, taken of Crew’s experienced staff working with barrels and tending to the vineyards. A 400-square-foot covered patio with ample seating lies on the west side of the building, providing overlooking views of a breathtaking landscape of expansive vineyards and mature olive trees.

Proprietor John Giguiere adds, “We are offering people a chance to explore a beautiful part of Yolo County, to come out to our farm and taste wine while overlooking where it was grown and where it is made. A true farm to fork experience. Or farm to cork, as the case may be.”

Founders and industry veterans John and Lane Giguiere started Crew Wine Company in 2005 to “continue our mission of promoting the Dunnigan Hills appellation” after selling their first winery, R.H. Phillips, in 2000. Their sole intention is to make wines that they themselves would want to drink at prices they do not mind paying.  Winemaker Dan Cederquist, who has been with the Giguieres since day one and has 25 years of experience, oversees winemaking for Matchbook, Mossback, and Sawbuck.
