Women for WineSenseSonoma, California | September 3, 2014: Join the Napa | Sonoma chapter of Women for WineSense (WWS) for two French wine tasting events this month in Napa and Sebastopol. Special event, “Taste of Médoc,” will be held on Saturday, September 20th, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in a private Sebastopol home, with international wine educator, Wendy Narby, providing an in-depth introduction to the Médoc region, accompanied by tasting a range of Cru Bourgeois wines from five different properties in the 2010 vintage. The chapter’s Wednesday Wine Club event, “Wines of the Rhône: North vs. South,” will be a blind tasting comparison of three pairs of Rhône wines held at Back Room Wines in downtown Napa on Wednesday, September 24th, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Get $5 off per person when you buy tickets for both events.

ABOUT TASTE OF MEDOC: Possibly the most famous region of Bordeaux, Médoc is known for its iconic, cabernet driven, classified growths. Among its most famous appellations produced in this area are Saint Estèphe, Margaux, Saint Julien and Pauillac. However, 30% of the region is actually made up of Cru Bourgeois, a diverse and affordable range of Médoc wines not included in the 1855 classification. Learn the history and geography of the region, and how this shapes the wines of the region–the complex mosaic that is Bordeaux.

ABOUT WENDY NARBY: Ms. Narby has spent the last 25 years in the French Food and Wine Industry. She now teaches professionals and the general public in Bordeaux, the U.K. and as far away as Asia and the U.S., as well as accompanying private wine tours for amateurs and enthusiasts alike. Her aim is to open the doors of the world’s most famous vineyards, explaining and making the wonderful world of French wine more accessible. Ms. Narby is a member of the Association of Wine Educators (AWE), lecturing on behalf of the Bordeaux Wine School (Ecole du Vin de Bordeaux)

Tickets for this event start at $30 for WWS members and are open to the public. To purchase and for more details, go to https://wws-taste-of-medoc.eventbrite.com.

WINES OF THE RHÔNE: NORTH VS. SOUTH: Cornas, Cote Rotie, St. Joseph, Hermitage, Condrieu vs. Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Rasteau, Tavel… Syrah vs. Grenache! This one-of-a-kind exploration of the Rhône Valley, from its steep northern vineyards to the rocky rolling hills and plains of the southern Rhône, will have guests taste three pairs of wines, one from the northern Rhône and one from the southern Rhône while Back Room Wines proprietor and sommelier Dan Dawson explains what makes each wine region and each wine unique.

Tickets for this event start at $25 for WWS members and are open to the public. To purchase and for more details, go to https://wws-wedwineclub-rhones.eventbrite.com.
