New Label Allows Consumers to “Design Their Own”

TerravantBuellton, Calif. (June 16, 2014) –Terravant Wine Company, located in California’s Central Coast wine region, is excited to announce a new brand, “Scratchpad,” which was developed by the winery’s creative group called Switchcraft Designs.   Scratchpad is the wine industry’s first interactive label.  Each bottle of wine comes with a charcoal pencil, which allows the buyer to sketch directly on the label, take a photo of their design and share it using social media outlets.   Under the Scratchpad label, Terravant will release a 2011 Central Coast Chardonnay, a 2012 Central Coast Sauvignon Blanc and a 2011 Central Coast Pinot Noir.

“This is an interactive label that encourages consumer to post their doodlings and messages online to the Scratchpad Facebook page and on Instagram,” explains Eric Guerra, Senior Vice President of Marketing & Sales at Terravant Wine Company.  “The goal is to encourage consumers to express their creativity, designing their own label with unique drawings or artwork. Also, it’s an ideal gift wine because it allows someone to quickly create a very personalized note.”  Guerra believes the label is only half the appeal of Scratchpad noting, “We are considered one of the finest wineries in the Central Coast region. So, we made a very conscience decision to offer prestige Central Coast wines all finely crafted here at the Terravant Wine Company.”

The 2011 Central Coast Chardonnay ($13) has a pale straw color with aromas of daffodil, pear and apple and flavors ranging from peach to lemon tart and crème fraiche and finishing with grapefruit and green apple.  This wine is ready to drink now and will age well for two to five years.

The 2012 Central Coast Sauvignon Blanc ($11) has a rich bouquet of honeydew melon, freesia flowers, and tropical lime zest. These hints of melons and tropical lime transition onto the palate and are accompanied by flavors of lemon-lime citrus rind and a bright acidity. The mouth feel has an ethereal quality, silky up front leading to a chalky minerality in the finish. This wine is also ready to drink now and will age well for two to three years.

The 2011 Central Coast Pinot Noir ($15) is a classic Central Coast Pinot Noir with a spicy aromatic profile, with hibiscus, dried sour cherries, forest floor, and a hint of vanilla and smoked bacon in the nose.  Flavors of cherries and juicy, red fruit dominate the mid-palate.  This wine features prettiness and complexity as only Pinot Noir can and is ready to drink now and will age well for the next five to ten years.

The wines are currently available in Connecticut, Indiana, Maine, New Jersey, New York, Texas and Virginia with additional distribution slated for later this summer.
