NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., May 14, 2014 – Qliktag Software Inc., an innovator of mobile software solutions, has received overwhelmingly positive response from the beverage industry for its mobile merchandising software platform, Qliktag Q*Engine.  Prominent brands such as C. Mondavi & Family, and Butchers Brewing, along with one of America’s leading whiskey companies, are using the platform to design and deploy unique mobile experiences for individual products and product categories, giving customers the ability to use their smartphones to interact with these products in a meaningful way.

“There is strong interest across the retail industry as to how brands can bring a digital experience to the physical retail environment and make deeper connections with their smartphone-savvy customers,” says Dilip Daswani, CEO at Qliktag Software.  “One of the markets most open to trying new mobile technologies is the beverage industry.  We are quite pleased with the response we’ve received from several brand name beverage companies that have used Qliktag Q*Engine to creatively and successfully deliver a mobile experience to their customers.”

Social Campaign

One of America’s leading whiskey companies recently leveraged the Qliktag platform to deploy a fun mobile campaign with the catch phrase “How Do You Hitch?”  Customers that scanned QR code labels on bottles of the Tennessee whiskey were prompted to key in their suggestions for a combination of their favorite whiskey and beer brand to come up with their own “hitch.”  After naming their hitch, participants were invited to share the creation with their friends on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. “The campaign offered customers an engaging way to interact with the brand by experimenting with the product to come up with different flavors of their own,” noted Mike Briggs, EVP, sales and marketing at Qliktag.

Building Brand Affinity

With a long history of producing exceptional wines, C. Mondavi & Family believes the product experience can be greatly enhanced through digital interaction with customers.  To that end, C. Mondavi & Family has printed QR codes on many of their wine bottle labels, and used the Qliktag platform to design mobile-friendly product pages for their newest brand – The Divining Rod.  Upon scanning a label, the customer can learn more about that particular wine with tasting notes, optimal serving temperatures, food pairings, etc.  Additionally, customers who have scanned a bottle with their phones can place orders online with a few clicks on their mobile device, thereby connecting the offline experience with e-commerce sales.

In the craft beer sector, Southern California-based Butcher’s Brewing sought to build loyalty with its customers by providing more detailed, nuanced information about each of its unique craft beers.  Because there was only so much information a static bottle label could provide, the company turned to Qliktag’s Q*Engine to create individual screens for each beer to convey a detailed description of the product with tasting notes, ingredients and insight into the care that went into crafting each product.  QR codes generated by the platform were printed on each of the beers so customers could scan and learn more about the beer they were drinking – as well as receive an incentive for their next bottle.  “Our interactive section has been well received by our customers and is increasingly helpful for us as well.  We are getting good results in terms of collecting data about our customers, and enjoy reading the comments they leave about their beer,” said owner Gabriel Tennberg.

“With mobile strategies becoming a priority for many beverage brands, we expect to see a lot more creative deployments of mobile technology within the beverage industry in the months ahead,” concluded Daswani.
