Sonoma, California, Wednesday, October 5, 2016 — People are “going nutz” over the new line of specialty dry-roasted nuts – U GOTTABE NUTZ – introduced earlier this year by Don Sebastiani & Sons. In response, the company has announced it will be expanding the line, adding four more flavors in time for holiday munching. “We’ve been very pleased at how this new product line has performed during its short time in the market,” said Donny Sebastiani, company president. “Demand at both the retail and consumer level convinced us to develop more offerings. When we notified our current retailers of our intentions, many of them opted to take them even without sampling them, which speaks well to the quality and consumer acceptance.”
The company will be adding Cracked Pepper & Curry Pistachios, Powdered Sugar & Cayenne Pecans, Smoky Bacon & Blue Cheese Almonds and Sun Dried Tomato & Basil Almonds. The current line features three flavors – Rosemary & Meyer Lemon Almonds, Caramel & Sea Salt Cashews and Balsamic Habanero Pistachios. Each is sold in 4-ounce packages that average $4.99 at retail. “The nuts are all natural, non-GMO, dry-roasted varieties – and they are both cholesterol- and gluten-free,” Sebastiani said. “And on top of that, they’re Kosher!”
The catchy U GOTTABE NUTZ name actually has to do with the Sebastiani Family history. “When my great-grandfather, Samuele, moved to America and worked in the artichoke fields of California, his parents told him ‘You gotta be nuts.’ When he bought a winery, they said the same thing. Later, during Prohibition, he decided to open a cannery in Sonoma and they said ‘You gotta be nuts.’ When my grandmother published her own cookbook, they said she was nuts, too. So, when my dad (Don, Sr.) suggested we make snacks after being in the wine business for decades, the first thing he heard was ‘You gotta be nuts.’ So we decided that would be the perfect name for the product line,” Sebastiani said.
