John KaneMendocino County, Calif. — August 22, 2016 — Fetzer Vineyards, a leader in sustainable winegrowing committed to restoring, revitalizing and regenerating ecosystems and communities while producing premium wines, has hired John Kane as Director of Winemaking and Winery Operations.

Kane joins Fetzer Vineyards after founding his own label, JCK Wine Company, in 2014. Prior to that he was with Rosenblum Cellars (a unit of Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines, now Treasury Wine Estates), where he began as an intern in 2001 and rose to Senior Winemaker, working closely for nine years with founder and California wine icon Kent Rosenblum. During Kane’s 14-year career there, Rosenblum Cellars’ production grew from 45,000 to 350,000 cases and Kane oversaw relations with more than 80 winegrowers.

In his newly created position with Fetzer Vineyards, Kane will lead winemaking for the company’s flagship brand, Fetzer, and contribute to innovation and quality improvements for all brands in the company’s portfolio. Additionally, Kane will assume management of lab, logistics and cellar operations.

“John fits right into Fetzer Vineyards’ long heritage of talented, experienced winemakers who understand wine down to the ground,” said Bob Blue, Vice President of Winemaking and Winery Operations for Fetzer Vineyards. “He worked alongside one of the all-time greats in Kent Rosenblum, he has a strong reputation with growers, and he has proven that he can make acclaimed, premium wine for brands with significant reach as well as smaller-lot artisanal styles similar to a number of our brands.”

Kane grew up in an agricultural community, and early jobs with small wineries inspired him to attend Fresno State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Enology with a Minor in Biochemistry. He later earned a Winery Accounting Certificate from Sonoma State University. In his free time, Kane enjoys skiing, traveling and camping with his family.
