Dan KostaSEBASTOPOL, California (August 16, 2016) – Kosta Browne Winery, a boutique, world-class winery based in Sebastopol, California, in the heart of the Russian River Valley, is pleased to announce that co-founder Dan Kosta has been appointed Honorary Vintner Chair of the 2016 Sonoma Wine Country Weekend.  The selection of the Sonoma Wine Country Weekend honorary chairs recognizes leadership and commitment to the Sonoma County wine and food community.

“We’re extremely honored to be a part of this fantastic community event supporting Sonoma County,” said Kosta.  “As we approach our 20th vintage at Kosta Browne Winery, we welcome the opportunity to lead Sonoma’s vintners to meet new fundraising goals.”

Taking place over Labor Day Weekend, Sonoma Wine Country Weekend is a celebration of Sonoma County’s wines, farmers, vintners and chefs and of the independent, generous spirit of the world-class wine country destination.  The three-day celebration includes winemaker lunches, dinners and more, and concludes with the Sonoma Harvest Wine Auction on Sunday, September 4.

Dan Kosta grew up surrounded by wine at his father’s wine shop in Santa Rosa, California.  He followed his passion for food and wine and worked for more than 15 years in fine dining, working every position in restaurants before landing as the operations manager and wine director at John Ash & Co. in Santa Rosa, where he met his business partner, Michael Browne.  Kosta and Browne founded Kosta Browne Winery in 1997 by using their saved tip money from John Ash & Co. to purchase a half ton of Pinot Noir grapes, a used barrel and an old hand-crank crusher.  In 2001, Kosta and Browne had 150 cases of 2000 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir in barrel and went looking for additional resources that would enable them to grow the business.  They met Chris Costello, who was intrigued by their story, their vision and their passion to create a business focused on producing world-class Pinot Noir.  The partnership they formed remains in place to this day.

Dan Kosta sits on the board of directors of the Sonoma County Vintners Association.  He spends the majority of his time traveling the country supporting Kosta Browne’s many fund-raising partnerships with charitable organizations.  To read more about Dan Kosta as the Honorary Vintner Chair, please visit www.sonomawinecountryweekend.com/about-us/honorary-chairs.
