A Collaboration between Daum Crystal and Jean Claude Mas

Domaines Paul MasLanguedoc, France (July 28, 2016) – Jean Claude Mas, art collector and vigneron of Domaines Paul Mas, seeks to marry the art of winemaking with major artistic fields such as painting, crystal glassworks and jewelry. Inspired by artists’ alliance with French crystal maker Daum, Jean Claude decided to create a crystal bottle for his exceptional one-off cuvee created specifically for the occasion. After two years of collaboration between the ambassador of Art Nouveau and the embodiment of new-wave winemaking in the old world of the Languedoc, Jean Claude Mas partners with Daum to produce a limited-edition bottling of AAA Astélia 2015.

Domaines Paul Mas AAA Astélia 2015 will be presented as an exclusive “en primeur” auction for charity in 10 different countries. The world premier launch will take place on September 23 at the Eiffel Tower and the US edition will take place in New York in November 2016. The series consists of 30 crystal bottles, each a unique work of art distinctly personalized and named by artist Christophe Heymann. Crafted in Daum’s extraordinary molten glass technique with vibrant colors and distinctive shaping, each bottle will hold just under a magnum (1.2 L). Following the auction, Jean Claude will select the top red cuvée from the twelve Domaines Paul Mas estates which extend across the Languedoc’s Herault Valley.

In February 2017, the finished “work of art” with a unique wax seal will ship in a personalized case. Bidders will also receive a gold Pruniaux bracelet at the time of the auction to mark their purchase.

About Domaines Paul Mas

Domaines Paul Mas was founded by Jean Claude Mas, a 4th generation vigneron, who has blazed the trail for premium winemaking in the Languedoc region of the South of France. Founded in 2000, Jean Claude’s vision to expand beyond the family’s original estate in Montagnac now includes twelve estates across the hillsides of the Herault Valley with a focus on sustainable viticulture. Named 16th of the world’s top 50 “Most Admired Wine Brands,” Paul Mas wines exemplify Jean Claude’s Luxe Rural philosophy: an appreciation of the simple pleasures of life, artfully rendered by nature.

About Daum

The story of Daum crystalworks began in 1878, when Jean Daum bought a glass factory in Nancy. Daum reinvented the technique of lost wax casting and molding invented in ancient Egypt, applying it to crystal. Known for his work in the Art Nouveau period, Daum has worked with a number of artists, most notably Salvador Dali for his “L’important, c’est la rose” series. Today Daum crystalworks is celebrated for their traditional expertise and avant-garde approach.
